Our Mission

Actioning a safe, secure, inclusive and trustworthy AI

Kenya is at a digital inflection point. Founded by Executive Order in 2024, the Action Lab serves as mission control for public-interest AI—bridging research, policy and rapid prototyping to advance inclusion, prosperity and sovereignty.

Letter from the Special Envoy on Technology, Kenya

Ambassador Philip Thigo
Technology must serve people—not the other way around.

When H.E. President William Ruto established the Office of the Special Envoy on Technology, he called for a future where every technology we adopt strengthens lives, institutions, and our national values of trust, fairness, and inclusion.

The Action Lab is how we deliver. In under a year, we've connected 40,000 smallholder farmers to AI-enabled services and launched Kenya's first sovereign AI Factory corridor. From justice reform to energy planning, our agile squads turn national challenges into scalable, people-first solutions.

These are just the first steps. As climate risks rise and Africa's youth surge forward, responsible AI will be central to our shared future.

Join us in building technology the world can trust—and Kenya can proudly own.

Amb. Philip Thigo
